Learning everything you need to know about basic nutrition, food nutritional facts and super-foods by reading nutrition health articles has become an essential part of our modern lives for many of us. As most of us know, the main purpose of food is to fuel the body and enhance the body's immune system. That is why it is essential to make wise food choices when planning your meals. The fact is that four out of the ten leading causes of death in the United States, heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes, are linked to the way we eat. But, unfortunately, eating poorly seems to be a choice that many of us are making today. According to Basil Rifkind M.D., "our nation's diet is the single biggest contributor to heart disease, the top cause of death in the United States. In addition, diet is believed to play a crucial role in approximately 30 percent of cancers. More and more, researchers are learning how the way we eat can influence our physical and emotional health, playing a leading role in scores of other diseases-everything from arthritis to wrinkles."
We need to re-learn the art of 'food therapy' and educate ourselves about what foods will provide us with the essential vitamins and minerals we all need to live full and healthy lives.
